Playing the game

You may use the site for personal and educational play. Please do not disrupt the service, attempt to damage it, or misuse the contact form or shared challenges. Choose a respectful nickname and do not submit automated or manipulated guesses.

Educational estimates

Population figures and scores are approximate. They use modelled 2020 population data and the map coverage described on our data page. They are intended for gameplay and are not suitable for decisions requiring official or current population counts.

Open data and our work

The population data is adapted from GHSL under CC BY 4.0; map outlines and city coordinates use Natural Earth public domain data, with UK administrative boundaries from ONS under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Their original terms remain applicable. The Population Split name, interface and original game presentation belong to their respective creators.

Availability and saved results

We may improve or change the game. Browser-local scores can be lost if you clear storage, switch devices or browsers, or use private browsing. Shared friend challenges expire after 24 hours. Clearing browser storage removes the private player session needed to resume them. We do not guarantee continuous availability or permanent score retention.
